The Population Council was the proud recipient of a 2021 FutureEdge 50 Award, presented by IDG’s CIO and recognizing organizations “pushing the edge with new technologies to advance their business for the future.” The award honors technological advancements and the innovative cultures enabling them.
Our winning submission highlighted a novel data-sharing solution for our researchers and the communities, vendors, donors and government agencies we work with and for. The Council’s entry, “Bringing big data to people where it counts: Population Council Data Central,” was a collaboration between our IT department and colleagues in Guatemala that described the planning, architecture and steps involved in building a data warehouse for Council researchers.
Eugene Kogan, our IT Director, writes, “I am so excited that our IT vision and roadmap – what we have been building towards for the past few years with new Cloud technology and security, data, and collaboration initiatives – can be expanded even further.” Angel del Valle, our Guatemala Country Representative, notes, “This is an impressive achievement that positions the Council as an organization with the skills (and the talent!) to integrate digital solutions to our model for global impact.”
