Dennis Matanda

Dennis Matanda is a Senior Program Officer I at the Population Council in Nairobi, Kenya. He specializes in research related to maternal, child and adolescent health with extensive experience in the use of survey data such as Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) and Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS).

Together with other consortium members under the research program Evidence to End Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), he and colleagues used DHS and MICS data to map-out FGM prevalence and study possible correlates of FGM, including child marriage, HIV/AIDS, and Fistula in Africa.

Additionally, Matanda is involved in implementation science and operation research, providing leadership as a principal investigator on a number of studies. Currently, Matanda serves as the deputy team leader of the FGM Data Hub project; principal investigator of the Review of Evidence on Effectiveness of Interventions Designed to Prevent or Respond to FGM; and principal investigator of Revitalisation of Intermittent Preventive Treatment of Malaria in Pregnancy in Kenya.

Matanda holds a PhD in International Health Promotion and Development from the University of Bergen, Norway.
