Md. Irfan Hossain

Md. Irfan Hossain is a Senior Program Officer in the Population Council’s Bangladesh office, where he provides technical assistance to projects on research design, survey planning, tools digitalization, digital data management, data analysis and report writing. He is a statistician and social researcher with expertise in demography, youth development, reproductive health, maternal and child health, workplace programming, program management, and M&E. In his role, he manages surveys and related data for the projects Frontline Health: Harmonizing Metrics, Advancing Evidence, Accelerating Policy and Keeping Girls in Schools to Reduce Child Marriage in Rural Bangladesh. 

Hossain successfully led a rigorous evaluation of the effectiveness of a workplace program to improve sexual and reproductive health and family planning services among female garment factory workers in Bangladesh from 2015 to 2017. He also serves as a core group member of the Population Council’s Research in Humanitarian Settings Task Force.

Prior to joining the Population Council in 2011, Hossain was a graduate research assistant at Ball State University and began his career as a banker in Bangladesh.

Hossain has authored or co-authored numerous research papers, reports and briefs and has presented his research both nationally and internationally. He serves as a representative of the Council in national level coalitions like Girls Not Brides – Bangladesh Alliance and Share-Net Bangladesh. He teaches postgraduate courses regarding public health and statistics at Independent University, Bangladesh and University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh.

Hossain holds an MA in Statistics from Ball State University and a postgraduate diploma in Population Sciences, an MBA in Finance, and an MS in Statistics from the University of Dhaka in Bangladesh.
